Chairperson Uesaka and Committee Members Naoi and Yoshihashi attended the “10th International Mentoring Workshop – Joshikai” (organized by the OECD/NEA and co-hosted by the Cabinet Office and the Atomic Energy Commission), held in Tokyo from July 24 to 27,2026. Additionally, Professor Okada of Tokyo City University (a former member of the Atomic Energy Commission) participated in the meeting as a co-chair.

Since the OECD/NEA first held this workshop in Japan in 2017, it has evolved into a broad international initiative to support the next generation of female leaders. Now held around the world, it connects high school girls with outstanding female scientists and researchers in the nuclear field from across the globe.

This year, in addition to high school girls from across Japan, participants included high school girls from the United States and Romania. Although Minister Onoda was unfortunately unable to attend due to prior commitments, he sent a message of encouragement to the participants based on his own experiences, which was read aloud by Commissioner Yoshihashi. In addition to listening to lectures by experts and mentors in the nuclear field, the participants took part in activities such as group discussions and poster sessions, engaging in lively discussions.
