Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA)2024 Study Panel

The 2024 Study Panel (SP) of the Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) was held on March 11, 2024, at Mita Conference Hall, hosted by Japan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC). All 12 Member Countries, i.e. Australia, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan, participated, as well as Singapore as an observer.
The theme of this year’s SP was “Production of Radioisotopes for Medical Use and Demand”, which gains increasing interest in medical field and is very important in practical medicines, and Member Countries have changed their perspectives and information.
Two keynote speeches were delivered: one by Dr. Higashi, Director of National Institute for Quantum Science and Technology, on Japan’s Action Plan for Production and Utilization of Medical Isotopes and the current ststus of several actions; and the other by Dr. Melissa Denecke, Director of Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences, the International Atomic Eenergy Agency (IAEA), on trends in medical radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals and the role of the IAEA.
As case study, six Member Countries made a country report on production, utilization and demand of medical radioisotopes, and the participants shared the information, and discussed very actively.
