Mr. NAOI, Yosuke, was appointed as a Commissioner on December 16th, 2023, for a three-year term. Before the appointment to the commission, he was a Director of the Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN), which was established in December 2010 at the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) following the Japanese national statement at the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington DC, April 2010. He has been leading the ISCN international and regional capacity building support activities as well as research and development on nuclear material detection and measurement technology for safeguards and nuclear security. Starting in 1983, for 20 years he was involved in the heavy-water reactor development project “Fugen” as a station chemist and a safety analyst. During these assignments, he was on temporary assignment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan as a technical adviser from 1998 to 2000. His past experiences vary from very technical tasks to diplomatic negotiations but also managerial and administrative tasks at ISCN.
