1.Object

The“Act on Compensation for Nuclear Damage” has been amended as needed ever since it was originally enacted in 1961. Corresponding to the Fukushima Daiichi Accident, the Japanese government has adopted further necessary legislation and guidance; current compensation process regarding the accident is underway.

On the other hand, regarding ongoing rebuilding of the compensation system prescribed in Article 6 of “Supplementary Provision of Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation Act,” “State Ministers’ Meeting for Rebuilding Nuclear Damage Compensation” has been established to point out problems and to discuss smooth management in reference to the position of the Strategic Energy Plan.

Taking into the consideration the above points, the Japanese Atomic Energy Commission will establish the“Advisory Committee on Nuclear Damage Compensation System” and study the most desirable system to prepare for a possible nuclear accident using specialized and cross-section viewpoints.
